Parent

They must also:

• be in good health
• be of good character
• have no dependent children
• be sponsored by a child in New Zealand who is over 18 years of age or over,
• a New Zealand citizen or resident for at least three years and meet other eligibility criteria
• meet English language requirements or pre-purchase English language tuition
• meet the requirements under either tier one or tier two of the Parent Category (regarding the sponsor’s income etc)

In some situations grandparents or other legal guardians may qualify as parents for application under this category.

Applicants submit and expression of interest and may be selected from the pool, depending on the quota at the time.

Tier One Requirements

Applicants under tier one must meet one of the following criteria.

• Sponsor’s income (minimum NZD 65,000 per year)
• Guaranteed lifetime minimum income (at least NZD 27,319 per year)
• Settlement funds (NZD 500,000 legally acquired, to be taken to NZ).

Tier Two Requirements

• minimum income of sponsor (at least NZD33,675 per year), and
• location of applicant’s other children (outside the applicant’s country of residence).
