A spouse or partner of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident may apply for a spouse visa to join their partner in Canada.

Successful applicants must live in a genuine relationship together with their spouse/partner in Canada for two years after receiving permanent residence in Canada.

    Spouses in a relationship of less than 2 years may apply if they:

    • have a spouse/eligible partner who is a permanent resident or Canadian citizen who can sponsor the applicant
    • have been in a relationship for up to two years or less,have no children in common with the partner
    • meet health requirements
    • meet character/criminal record checks
