The Danish Green Card Scheme
Sri Lankans may be issued with three year residence permits to seek jobs and work in Denmark. Residence permits under the Green Card Scheme are issued based on individual assessment based on a points system, which is used to assess whether it is likely that the Sri Lankan concerned would be able to find qualified work in Denmark.
Conditions
To be issued a residence permit under the Green Card Scheme, one has to obtain at least 100 points. The points are awarded based on five criteria: education, linguistic ability, work experience, ability to adjust and age.
You also must be able to support yourself for the first year in Denmark.
Duration
Residence permits under the Green Card Scheme are issued for up to three years. Permits can be prolonged for up to one year if one has permanent work of a certain scope or has had permanent work of a certain scope and has been made redundant at the most three months prior to applying for an extension.
Family members
People who have obtained residence permits based on the Green Card Scheme may also bring their spouses/registered partners/cohabiting partners and children under the age of 18 resident at home. The family must live together and must be able to support itself. If one’s spouse/registered partner/cohabiting partner obtains a residence permit, he/she is entitled to work as long as the residence permit remains valid.
