Skilled Migration

The Australian Skilled Migration Visa enables highly skilled migrants to permanently move to Australia to fill shortages in the Australian workforce.

The Australian Skilled Independent Visa, allows migrants to live and work in Australia without a job or sponsorship. Your eligibility for the general skilled migration is based on your skills and work experience.

You will be eligible for an Australia Highly Skilled Visa if:

• You are under 50 years of age
• Meet the minimum requirement for English competency
• Nominate and hold a skilled assessment for an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List at the time of your application
• Provide evidence of recent employment in a skilled occupation or have recently completed the Australian Study requirement.

If your application for an Australia Skilled Migrant Visa is successful, you will be granted a 5 year multiple entry visa to live and work in Australia. You only need to live in Australia for 2 out of 5 years to qualify to get the visa reissued for another 5 years. Or if you spend 4 years in Australia you can be eligible for citizenship.

Employer Sponsored Workers

For skilled people to be employed in Australia on a temporary or permanent basis. Applicants for these visas seeking to work for an Australian employer must be sponsored by their employer.
This is the most commonly used program for employers to sponsor overseas workers to work in Australia on a temporary basis.

Employers can be either:

• Australian businesses

• overseas businesses.

As an employee, you must meet all the following requirements:

• be sponsored by an employer to fill a nominated position

• have skills, qualifications, experience and an employment background which match those required for the position

• demonstrated English language proficiency

• be eligible for any relevant licenses or registration required for the nominated position

• you can apply for this visa while you are in Australia, only if the last visa you held is not a Transit visa (Subclass 771) or a Special Purpose visa.

English language proficiency requirements

All primary Subclass 457 visa applicants who are sponsored by a Standard Business Sponsor must demonstrate that they have English language proficiency that is equivalent to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test score of at least 6 in each of the four test components of speaking, reading, writing and listening.

Spouse Visa

One will qualify for a spouse visa if:

• You are married to an Australian citizen or permanent resident
• You are in long-term relationship with an Australian citizen or permanent resident
• You are in a de-facto relationship with an Australian citizen or permanent resident
• You are in an interdependent relationship with an Australian citizen or permanent resident

Spouse visa is initially given on a temporary basis for two years. If the applicant is able to prove the relationship is ongoing and genuine, at the end of the two-year period, the applicant will be granted a permanent visa.

Parent Visa

Parents are entitled for migration to Australia if children living in Australia are sponsoring the parents. The children of the applicant must be Australian citizens or permanent residents. To be eligible for this visa, one must pass the “balance of family test”. Passing the test will mean that the applicants will have more children in Australia than in any part of the world, and the sponsors are settled in Australia.

There are certain conditions when applying for a parent visa. If the applicant is a working age parent, then the application must be lodged outside Australia, where Aged Parents can lodge their applications within Australia. To be considered as an aged parent, a male parent must be 65 years or more, where qualifying age for a female aged parent will be between 60 to 65 years of age.
