Canterbury Skill Shortage List updated

Posted on August  05 , 2014
New Zealand’s Canterbury Skill Shortage List (CSSL) has been revised and the changes will come into effect tomorrow, 6 August 2014. The changes will be:
      • Add Plumber (General)
      • Revise the requirements that applicants with occupations on the CSSL need to meet to apply for a work visa using the CSSL for:
        • Drainlayer – to reflect the requirement to be licensed or authorised by the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board
        • Carpenter and Joiner – to clarify the requirements where a person is qualified for both occupations
        • Telecommunications Engineer – to update qualifications for the occupation.

The Canterbury Skill Shortage List was implemented following the 2011 earthquake in Christchurch, to help rebuild the city and make it easier for foreign workers to get work visas. The Canterbury Skill Shortage List is updated quarterly and may contain occupations not included on either the Immediate Skill Shortage List (for work visas) or the Long Term Skill Shortage List (for residence).
